Dinesh Karthik joins Emirates Dubai 7s 2024 as official cricket ambassador
Tickets for first-ever match between UK's Barmy Army and India's Bharat Army available now
DUBAI: The Emirates Dubai 7s, known for its thrilling sports and entertainment offerings, has elevated its cricket experience this year by appointing former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik as its official ambassador.
Karthik, with a celebrated 15-year international career, including over 300 matches and leadership of Kolkata Knight Riders, will play a central role during the festival from 29th November to 1st December at The Sevens Stadium. The event is expected to attract participants from 128 countries and will feature rugby 7s, cricket, netball, and more.
Throughout the three-day festival, Karthik will host exclusive cricket masterclasses alongside fellow cricket stars, including former World Cup winners Georgia Elwiss and Alex Hartley, Lancashire’s Tom Hartley, and Fi Morris. The presence of these international cricketing talents provides a unique opportunity for fans to engage with some of the game’s most accomplished players.
Karthik’s participation in the festival builds on the growing demand for cricket in the UAE, a region where the sport enjoys massive popularity. “It is a huge pleasure to be named the official cricket ambassador for the Emirates Dubai 7s event this year,” Karthik said. “I look forward to meeting cricket-enthusiasts and experiencing all that’s in store at the cricket site.”
Barmy Army vs. Bharat Army
A highlight of this year’s event will be the inaugural match between two of the world’s largest cricket supporter groups: the UK’s Barmy Army and India’s Bharat Army. The match, part of the Open Competitive Tournament, promises to add another layer of excitement to the already packed cricket schedule. Fans attending the event will witness this historic face-off between the two passionate fanbases, further enhancing the festival’s appeal.

In addition to the high-calibre cricket matches, the festival site has undergone improvements, including a dedicated entertainment stage, large screens broadcasting rugby matches, and new transport options like shuttle buggies for easier access. The cricket site will also feature a new food offering, with the Desi Me Rolling Indian fusion street food truck, adding a new culinary twist to the festival.
